The Future of Mental Health Treatment
The future of treatment and
recovery services within the world of mental health services is undoubtedly
expected to change for a number of reasons. First of all, with President
Barak Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the likelihood for seeing dramatically improved
mental health services is all but guaranteed to those whom have previously been
unable to afford these services. Whether or not they choose to seek them
out is an entire matter altogether. One of the key changes occurring,
however, is that private health insurance companies are looking many new way7s
of maximizing profits, as usual, and thus considering more non-mainstream
treatments like homeopathy, herbal medicine, yoga, etc. In addition to
such eastern approaches, newer and more advanced western are also becoming much
more mainstream such as, EMDR, neurofeedback, neuroplasticity, etc.
For years, patients struggling with mental health issues have unfortunately been labeled as rejects by society. This sentiment is certainly not absolute or all out across-the-board but certainly quite prevalent. And this doesn’t necessarily apply so much to clinical depression and ADD as it does nearly to disorders like PTSD, bipolar and schizophrenia. Even when so much as hearing the word “schizophrenia” we immediately go to the common visual of seeing the homeless guy yelling at a brick wall. Unfortunately, we never consider the physician, or the engineer or the professional athlete who sufferes from the same exact illness but is able to be stashed away in some lockdown facility.
The future of mental health treatment in America looks rather bright. With the combination of advanced medical breakthroughs coupled with some of the world’s most brilliant minds, we are able to look to a whole new panorama of treatment options that offer a much higher level of effectiveness.
